Who are the true Chad philosophers? Out of all the philosophy I have read, I can't take anyone seriously but Montaigne so far. Don't give me Nietzsche. I can't take anyone who writes about power seriously when he was a pathetic megalomaniac loser in real life who complained about women because he got rejected by pussy. Xenophon was a tough man and a briliant military commander.

The man who wrote "The Discourses of Epictetus" was a disciple of him called Arrian. Arrian was regarded as the best historian of his era and the best philosopher (after his master died). He became friends with Hadrian when both studied under Epictetus. He became senator and while a young man became the governor of the province of Baetica. Later on, he governed Capadoccia (and likely after that the province of Syria which was one of the most important provinces of the Empire). While he governed Capadoccia, he repulsed an invasion by commanding two legions. He was so well regarded even in his youth that his nickname was "the new Xenophon" (a name that he called himself). Epictetus himself was obviously a tough man, but he had no interest in politics.
