I found this series to be mildly interesting but ultimately relied on the same tired “LE DARK POLITICAL FANTASY” which made GURMM such a meme. It has its moment, but fuck if it doesn’t pile on the grimderp for the hell of it. It felt like Bakker was trying to write the fantasy equivalent of Blood Meridian
