What are some other good crime and mystery novels?

Double Indemnity

The Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo ten-book police procedural series The Story of Crime is really good, especially the 4th book in the cycle, Laughing Policeman (fun fact: Franzen wrote an introduction to this)
