What's /lit/'s opinion on my hometown writer, Kurt Vonnegut? My city just developed a museum in his honor and I'm reading Slaughterhouse-Five.

I fucking love it.

I like him. I mean... shit. He writes a story about World War Two, and then adds time travel, and aliens, and shit. All kinds of awesome.

That's always been my problem. People think I'm trolling when I'm being serious, and that I'm being serious when I'm trolling.

I don't frequent /lit/ although I'd like to. I didn't realize you got Vonnegut threads all over the place. Sorry.
>>1539672
And exactly! Are any of his other books good? I'm planning on reading some more after I finish Slaughterhouse-Five.

>> No.1539695

I was just about to start a Vonnegut thread OP.

I only recently got into him. Over the last week, I read Slaughterhouse 5, Slapstick, God Bless You Dr. Kevorkian, and I'm almost finished with Mother Night (Phenomenal so far).

I wanted to know what everyone's opinion on Slapstick was. I got the same kind of vibe I got when I read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.

I'm thinking of picking up Cat's Cradle. Sounds kind of like Fallout: The Novel.

Have you seen the Slaughterhouse movie? I watched it yesterday. Really well done, I thought.

Hocus Pocus and Cat's Cradle are great as well.

I just got Cat's Cradle off amazon for a dollar. The cover looks turrible lol, here it is.

Love KV though. SH5 is the best the best. Breakfast of Champions is a close second

>> No.1539704

Dead eye dick is his best novel, slaughter-house five is overrated, just an opinion take it or leave it.

I haven't. Does it matter if I watch the movie while I'm in the middle of the book or does that ruin the experience?

Brotip: It's not much like Fallout. I don't want you going out into the world and getting disappointed.

Err. Yeah. It might. I'd wait until you're done.

>> No.1539721

A few of his books are decent, but honestly I consider it to be pretty samey and boring for the most part.

Slaughterhouse V is good however.

Okay, I'll end up waiting for that then.

I'm actually planning on going to that museum on Sunday. I don't know what it is about him. It's probably the fact that he seems to write what he wants. He's not worried if things make much sense. That's what it seems like to me.

He spends a page describing the exact dimensions of every character's cock. The best book ever? I think YES

Read all his shit, huge fan, would love to visit his hometown, and I guess now I HAVE to since they opened a museum.

Really? See I've read basically every word he has ever published and I'm just not that into the guy anymore.

I think somewhere into God Bless you Mr Rosewater I just decided that he wasn't all that.

He has written some good stuff though.

>> No.1539781

Only read Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse 5, but I blazed through because I loved them so much. I plan on getting Breakfast of Champions next.
