How did you change your life after reading Jung?

Unironically Jung did help change my life for the better. After reading him I realized that for most of my life I was cucking myself in a desperate attempt to maintain my persona at all costs, and I had utterly buried my shadow under the carpet. After reading him I made an effort to embrace my shadow. For a period of around 6 months I transitioned into a complete asshole.

Specifically I decided to tackle my feelings of inadequacy towards women, and I became kind of a pick up artist of sorts. After doing that for a bit, I saw that despite getting what I wanted materially (women and sex), I felt spiritually bankrupt.

I then left that life style in favor of not being a degenerate and being more of a normal person. But this time, because I had the experience of integrating my shadow, I was able to do so without having to compromise myself.

In short, the experience of temporarily embracing my shadow led me into being able to integrate it with my persona; allowing me to develop into a better functioning adult.

Jung was so on point about the unconscious shadow and the anima/animus. I've been going through trauma therapy and experienced these ideas first hand. It's very intense going through this things in real life as opposed to reading about them. Very thankful to have his work out there in the world.

It was a couple of books and my memory is a bit hazy. But pic related was my starting point. I remember focusing a lot of my attention to anything he had to say about the persona and shadow, since that was the most relevant material for me at the time. Though I would also highly suggest looking into his writings about the anima and animus as well.

That really is a coincidence, it was around 3 years ago for me as well. The summer into the winter of 2017.

have any Jung-bros here ever read Maps of Meaning? if so would you recommend it? I'm not a huge fan of JP but he seems to be the only contemporary Jungian around today, and I was wondering if it was worth the time.

I realized what he did in his 30s to his 50s, investigating beneath his consciousness, was what Rimbaud did in his late teens. Unlike Rimbaud, he hung on to his sanity thanks to his wife and children.
Red Book is breath taking as a work of art.

I can't say if I recommend it for someone who is already into Jung. But the Maps of Meanings lectures were an excellent starting point for getting exposed to Jung and the significance of his ideas. And for that alone I appreciate JBP, since he really helped expose Jung to a generation of people.

Helped me feel less crazy after I undertook some unconscious digging at 17-18 years old and ended up feeling completely insane and alienated as a result. (couldn't talk to my friends about what I saw without them looking at me like I was crazy and dismissing what I said)
That was a rough couple of years.
I also can't attribute all of that to him, I found Jordan Peterson at age 19-20, then in turn found Nietzsche and Jung. Thanks, lads, you saved me from the abyss.

Some Nietzsche and/or Schopenhauer, or any German philosopher from that time would help. The Bible would help, Faust would help, Divine Comedy would help. Not necessary, though, but they would help.
Unironically Jordan Peterson lectures. Then Man in Search of a Soul, or Man and His Symbols, or Portable Jung, or if you're feeling ballsy The Red Book.

The unification of opposites is basically ascending the binary. This concept is found, for instance, all over Taoist literature like the Book of Chuang Tzu.
>Is it something that one should strive towards
Ideally, yes. There's an old saying that goes something like this: Why strive to be good when I can be whole?
>is it something that has to happen naturally?
If it did happen without thinking about it, I don't think we'd be having this conversation lol

>>15395579
This is a valid criticism, but there are some things that simply can't be addressed scientifically, because they can't be measured. You have to take someone's word, or go on your own experience. A skeptical person will dangle their toes into the abyss of subjectivity while keeping their ass firmly planted on the ledge of science.
