Britain, particularly Wales and western England, is objectively the comfiest place ever to have existed, with the loveliest (if not the most striking) landscapes. They are all onto something. Britain retained, and still does somewhat, some places which are incredibly pastoral (which is what i assume you mean in this context), but also areas which are incredibly industrialised. This, along with the English class system, and sweeping romanticism of course.

Brit here and yes I would absolutely agree with your assessment of the British Isles as very lovely indeed. However also worth noting is the lack of "drama" as it were in the English landscape in particular. There are no vast mountains, ravines, harsh weather etc. Instead it is calm and unassuming, rolling hills and patchwork fields. If you ask me this is why our literature is so comfy; undeniably beautiful but serene and calm.
