I think the self evident differences on race are superficial, like the skin pigmentation or the average body features. Anthropology was created to have specific behavior patterns that differentiate one race from the other.
I know that the study of anthropology was subverted and removed from its original role since the reforms imposed on the field by Claude Lévi-Strauss, but what I was referring to is that, without concrete statistics and field study, you would have no way of knowing the behaviors of a certain race beyond your personal and subjective experience with it.
