What's your daily reading routine like?

How many hours or pages? Do you have a goal or do you need not force yourself through it?

In the meantime, I'll post routines of authors.

Schopenhauer's is probably my favourite. I've often read in introductions to his books that he did pretty much the same thing every day for decades.

>07:00 am: get up, wash, coffee
>07:30 am: write
>12:00 am: play flute
>12:30 pm: lunch
>01:00 pm: read

I've gotten into a rhythm where I try to do at least 40 pages of Moby Dick, about 4 chapters of the Bible, and 10 pages of the Latin book I've been working through.
I still work ~40hrs/week, 3 days 12 hours a day.
I mainly focus on getting 4 good hours of work done every day, work being defined as reading, cleaning, and/or writing music and practicing guitar.

why do you measure your progress by the number of pages you read a day?

If in the Bible you come across something very interesting, something that requires you to spend time digesting, do you feel pressure to continue moving forward?

This is why I've never understood the obsession with reading some number of pages a day. Why not read some number of hours a day, where the only requirement is careful thought and focus?

Otherwise, it sort of just seems like you read for the ``image" of it. Like, ``I read X pages of Y. I feel good about my industriousness".

I wake up rudely awakened by the commuters outside at approximately 7am. I roll out of my oversized bed that I sleep in alone and grudgingly pull on the running clothes that I laid out for myself the night before, as he knew that were they not there I would recognize their absence as permission to not exercise.

So, heading outside into the smog filled air of the inner-city, I go running to the sole oasis of greenery that is nearby. An undersized public park. The two laps of the park (strewn with empty lager bottles left by the youth who drink there) often mean I return to my spacious flat at about 7.45. I then shower and allow the endorphins to bat away the negativity that bombards me whenever I find myself alone and unoccupied. In my isolation, as the steam fills the bathroom, without such a chemical I would find myself showering for over an hour. While there I apply my d'occitane beauty products. Since starting their use I continually get compliments on my clear skin.

I adorn myself in the business attire and wash down a cocktail of designer supplements with a coffee made on my barista machine. It cost over $4,000 dollars.

Now around 8.30, I walk to work. Prior to moving into this flat I spent three hours daily commuting. The flat is very expensive, but my time is worth more. By 9.00 I am in work and am having to diligently un-fuck whatever new catastrophe in waiting that my idiotic colleagues and underlings have miraculously managed to set in motion.

This relentless work, coupled with numerous pointless meetings, sees me occupied the entire day until 6pm. My only interlude is a quick hour long workout at the gym on-site. After work I walk home, stopping on the way to pick up ingredients to cook myself a gourmet meal.

Returning to my flat, I cook said meal while listening to Huey Lewis and the News. I eat the meal and set out my clothes for the next day. It is now 7.30 and it is time to begin writing.

I pour myself four fingers of whiskey and light a cigarillo at my writing desk. It is mahogany and was hand made to my specifications. I find I only write well when very drunk. Opening my laptop after my third glass, I open up my internet browser and shitpost on /lit/ before blacking out.
