This was on As I Lay Dying, one of his most accessible novels.

But leaving all of that aside, why have this haughty, closed-minded approach to literature? You have to approach lit with a spirit of humility and patience. If a work is hard to understand, especially a work that has high critical acclaim, it's on the reader to parse through carefully and slowly, read annotations and criticisms, read through several times, and come at it with the mindset of someone trying to understand. More often than not the book will reward patient reading. If it does not, then the book is substanceless and therefore bad. It is not bad on account of its difficulty, but because the treasure was not worth the dig.
The problem with these people is that they view literature in the same way they view every other entertainment medium. They want to sit comfortably with a book in their hands like they do when they watch their Netflix program and be immersed into a cheap, trite world of suspense and climax. They do not allow for any experimentation with language, any examination of the philosophical and psychological problems we face, or any attempt at snatching the Sublime. This is not bad in itself but for such a person to then pick up a book which does all these things and approach it with the same mindset that they have when they read "SEXY DIARY VOLUME IV: IS THE HOT BDSM BILLIONAIRE THE KILLER?" and not only dismiss it but accuse everyone else of secretly hating it too is downright idiocy.

>In high-school Pat was something of a class clown. His hobbies included reading a novel or two a day and giving relationship advice to all his friends despite the fact that he had never so much as kissed a girl. He also role-played and wrote terrible stories about elves. He was pretty much a geek.

>Most of Pat's adult life has been spent in the University Wisconsin Stevens Point. In 1991 he started college in order to pursue a career in chemical engineering, then he considered clinical psychology. In 1993 he quit pretending he knew what he wanted to do with his life, changed his major to "undecided," and proceeded to study whatever amused him. He also began writing a book....

>For the next seven years Pat studied anthropology, philosophy, eastern religions, history, the blade, alchemy, parapsychology, literature, and writing. He studied six different martial arts, practiced improv comedy, learned how to pick locks, and became a skilled lover of women. He also began writing a satirical advice column which he continues to this day: The College Survivial Guide. Through all of this he continued to work on his novel.

I'll be honest, I've hardly read any Faulkner at all. In fact, only about five chapters of Pylon, which out of distractedness and other reading priorities I keep returning to only to drop and need to begin again. This is all to say, "confettispatter" is perhaps one of the greatest words I have ever read. I don't even have to know any academic analysis of Faulkner to know that he is truly one of the greats. That single word of what I understand to be one of his less well-known works is superior in my mind to the first three chapters of Infinite Jest, the first five chapters of Dubliners, the first ten chapters of Farewell to Arms (though A Sun Also Rises was pretty good), and the entirety of the Great Gatsby. It may also be better than Song of Solomon (the book), but I stayed up until 6am to finish that one because I couldn't put it down, and therefore do not remember much except the protagonist flying (or perhaps only allegorically flying) into the sky. It is on-par with the first 45 poems of Seamus Heaney's 100 Poems, and significantly better than the first page of his Beowulf translation. In fact, I would only rank it behind the first 10 of Shakespeare's Sonnets, the first chapter of The Brothers Karamazov, the Confessions of Augustine, the first seven chapters of Genesis, Judith, Job, Song of Songs (which is the Song of Solomon), Proverbs, Wisdom, Ecclesiastes, Ecclesiasticus, the Gospel of Matthew, and the Gospel of John. Definitely better than the Necromancer, which was just depressing and anti-climactic.

All that said, I've not really read too much else worth bringing up, so maybe I'm wrong.

Now in the corner of a hallway there was a saucer of milk for the cat. "Milk is for the pussy, isn't it?" said Simone. "Do you dare me to sit in the saucer?"

"I dare you," I answered, almost breathless.

The day was extremely hot. Simone put the saucer on a small bench, planted herself before me, and, with her eyes fixed on me, she sat down without my being able to see her burning buttocks under the skirt, dipping into the cool milk. The blood shot to my head, and I stood before her awhile, immobile and trembling, as she eyed my stiff cock bulging in my trousers. Then I lay down at her feet without her stirring and for the first time, I saw her pink and dark flesh cooling in the white milk. We remained motionless, both of us equally overwhelmed…

>giving birth yields life
Biologically speaking, DNA/RNA replication and cell division "yield" life. Metaphysically speaking, we have no idea where or when life begins or ends. The only people who believe birth has anything to do with it are luddites scared of science, and women desperate to claim power from men in the only way they can.
Giving birth has virtually nothing to do with life beyond freeing it from a cage that will eventually kill or deform it. A womb is nothing more than an advanced, organic petri dish, and the life growing in it proceeds regardless of the woman housing it unless she knowingly terminates it.

inb4 I'm some kind of misogynist because I don't buy the bullshit that women create life. Life happens whether women give a shit or do a damn thing or not - rape proves that. It's a cope women and society need so that animalistic, violent men aren't just killing them constantly.

Create representative democracy instead of direct democracy, because you know direct democracy leads to nothing but the tyranny of the majority and the temporary sensations and moods of zeitgeist and populism.

The problem is that you'll try to design it with the idea that only the best should be allowed to participate in politics, including a restricted electorate. Your buddy with fight you every step of the way, being an idealist to the end, so instead you'll wind up with a very broad electorate whose been told they should only vote for the most qualified individuals of the highest moral character for office, while at the same time convincing them they are all exceptional people for no other reason than they were born some where. Eventually, this will inevitably lead to your electorate being comprised of the entire population, which wouldn't be a problem, except that their undue sense of exceptionalism has led them all to believe they're truly great people, so they will elect representatives who are like them - representatives will primarily sell their candidacy on this regard, in fact. They will elect representatives just like them, and when their entire government is filled with jealous, fear-riddled, greedy, self-centered charlatans who are generally ignorant and unskilled, and then your electorate will bitch constantly about how much the government or rich people or society is fucking them while paying no attention at all to how much they are fucking themselves.

Another failed attempt by this unknown author to regulate the life of humankind... for the following reasons
1) The book lacks intellectualism and scientific content
For in this book the earth is not round and the sun orbits the earth and the mountains are pillars holding up the earth and the sky is "a preserved ceiling with no pillars" and frozen blood is a stage of fetal development and seminal fluid emerges from between the back and the chest, etc.
2) Many claims lacking evidence in logic and reason
3) Clearly stolen from pre-Islamic poetry
4) Promotes a spirit of barbarity in dealings with others
5) The book is a direct plagiarism
6) Either Allah or Muhammad are playing a strange game in this book as it's clear there is obscurity in the verses about the Companions and Imamate of the Ahlulbayt
7) The abrogating and abrogated verses in a "Heavenly Book" remind one of puberty
8) The author suffers from weak memory in regards to the issue of inheritance
9) Shameful mistakes in eloquence and meaning

>Evolution favours less lethal diseises because they don't kill their hosts fast enough to prevent the spread

Which makes them more successful killers. Just not more effective in the individual case.

>are ya winning son
A popular attempt by dad to relate to son. It shows the inescapable boundaries between generations as the question itself does not really have an answer. But dad is making an attempt to do right so son has a choice, to lie (all dad wants to hear is an enthusiastic ‘im winning dad!’), reveal the harsh truth which is really no answer at all (‘kinda...not sure yet...it’s close...’), or admonish him for asking yet again (it is likely not the first time and if son feels he is going to lose then he may lash out and hurt dad, thereby revealing this boundary between their mindsets).

Yet the reaction we get is Kafka’s famous ‘vermin.’ It can mean many things. Is he throwing his hands up in the air because even as a transformed being the question still warrants his contempt? Is it a commentary on the obliviousness of dad, not even realizing what has happened to son? Is it a commentary on the nature of winning and gaming comparing it to the absurdity of this scene from Kafka?

Garbage. Any country where you have to pay tax to "own" property is a country where you in truth own nothing and merely lease your possessions from the government.

>Lysidike took her ability to read his mind as a matter of course, but his converse power was still unsettling. Time was only Anaximander ever gleaned what she thought with any proficiency; but he deduced her nature from what his oily smarts told him was the nature of a person, and only sardonically hinted at his mastery. Tlexictli didn’t even have to puzzle to catch her straight away, so the privacy she took for a metaphysical given in her youth broke up, and she felt her disagreements with her husband as dumb sensory pressures, like heat or cold. Their cross-purposes weren’t any easier for their transparency, but there was nothing to worry over – they’d conducted business together before becoming sentimental.

Minor quibble on the last bit. Georgism was the central pillar of Minsheng (the People’s Livelihood), the third of Sun Yat-sen’s Three Principles of the People. Since the Three Principles are the core of KMT ideology, that means that Chiang Kai-shek’s regime in China and Taiwan was at least partly founded on Georgism.

its hilarious to see the lanky virgins here trying to insult his physique when theres literally nothing wrong with it. you can't see the top of his shoulders but already his body at the top of his pic is wider than his hips. he doesn't have girl hips. you are mistaking his bulging quads for hips. hips are a big higher up, virgins. he also has a thin waist, which is perfectly fine and many consider it aesthetic. thin waist alone isn't particularly feminine.
