I wanted to pursue philosophy further in my college but I'm unlikely to succeed in that field. Recommended readings? In my intro class we read the crito, phaedo, and euthyphro as well as pondered on many other base topics. Much of that knowledge I feel I've forgotten somewhat by now.

I actually memed my friend into doing this. He's a bit of a tard though, didn't even know who Achilles was. He should have really had some familiarity with the subject before starting.

Read something that gives you a background knowledge first. I'd do the Greek Myths by Graves. Then move chronologically through Greek philosophy.

Don't do this. Secondary texts are cancer. Jump straight into it. Plato doesn't use strange terms.

Usually I would agree but if you're retarded like my mate, whenever Plato brings up some person in his texts he autisitically asks me who they are.
Sometimes you really need some extra context.

Honestly the best way to become smart is to admit you know nothing. The worst thing is to walk around thinking your hot shit because you took a class or read a book.

Engage in novel problem solving across a variety of mediums. and learn to cross pollinate strategies and techniques from in between mediums. Use the concepts of compositional balance in painting in the completing of flavors in your cooking. try and pull apart and repair a vacuum cleaner, then try the same process - recognizing the steps and also the arrangements of components - in another appliance. Once you've mastered something - MOVE ON. Don't try to get efficient with your problem solving, just get to the point where you can do it without error, don't bother about getting fast... if you want 'intelligence' then you want breadth.
If you play a musical instrument - say a stringed one like guitar or cello, now try and learn something percussive or even go abstract and try and make music on a sequencer.

Plato will not make you smart. If you are not already smart you will not pick up on the important parts of the book and will only see it for face value. Every time I show retarded people plato they focus on the material things discussed in the dialogues.

Like what? I've read the crito, phaedo, and euthyphro and was able to pick up the abstract concepts. I'm not sure what you mean by "material things".

Learn to do meditation where you think nothing and achieve a still mind. Then, so dual n-back or similar training to increase short term memory. Then, take drugs such as noopept or aniracetam. Work on having patience and a very calm temper. Buddhism or stoic books might help. Develop curiosity and emotional intelligence. Learn logic and reasoning, and how to understand and argue well.

You can become more knowledgeable but you cannot become more intelligent.

Sorry that you've lost the nature/nurture lottery as I have.

Well, one definite way to at least appear more intelligent is to not tell people how intelligent you are or think you are in someway super intelligent.

>> No.15337954

>>15332056
If by intelligence you mean developing a solvent intellect (intelligence could come in the form of psychomotricity for example), i'd say that its core is the acquisition and integration of methods of thinking and their gradual complexification. This firstly must be done through the development of a discipline, discipline that starts with the learning of methods of thinking. That's what intellectual formation as we know it has worked until now. Search for the methodology and put it into practice in whatever field you want to develop.

If you were intelligent it would be self-evident a priori. So I guess you're not intelligent.

I'm a proof as well as some people i know. I've been what could be known as "average" until i hit 25, when i started studying philosophy. I've had the best qualifications in my promotion and now at my 30's i've just started a phd abroad. That doesn't prove anything, i also have some dumb friends that are doing a phd, but it's the anecdotal evidence i can give you.
I can't go into much more detail i can't write to fluently in english.
