Just picked this up and am reading it for the first time. This book is great. i haven't yet seen the movie, but let's have an appreciation thread for this amazing story.

Great book indeed. Just take the subsequent novels in stride and you're in business.

Amazing book. Check out the Dirk Gently stories as well.

The pic was related, so i assume the subsequent novels are included. I'm not yet halfway through, but it's hilarious. The humor in it with all technology is absolutely fantastic, and his style of writing fits the story so well.

Sounds very interesting, I'll definitely have to check it out.

What's the opinion on the movie? I heard it was funny, but not as good as the book.

Mos Def was pretty ok in it, and it has Zooey Deschanel. It's a good movie as long as you assume (correctly) that it has absolutely nothing to do with the book.

Is it honestly THAT bad? I love Simon Pegg and while it surely won't live up to the books, it's still funny, right?

Really? I didn't even enjoy the movie on it's own merits. I thought the plotting moved too fast, and it didn't leave any sort of impression on me at the end.

The ending sucked balls. The rest I don't remember.

the actors are fine. Its funny. But the movie did to the book what Ted Bundy did to women. Gained their affection and trust in public, slay them, and sleep with their corpse

Alright, well if I were to watch the movie now, would it spoil anything in the book? I am on chapter 12 in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

It's unlikely I'd watch it now, but you make it sound like it has nothing to do with the book at all.

Nah man Schwartzman was in it for a sec and Mos Def was made out of yarn! Also ZB's outfits were faaaaaaaabulous! Oh yeah Malkovitch too!
