I don't think it's possible for philosophy to be outdated, but I do think that contemporary discourse can become heavily burdened by over reliance on works that have come before. When you have two people arguing over what are fundamentally someone else's ideas, you're pretty unlikely to generate anything truly novel in the process. It feels sometimes like the near endstate of academic philosophy when the game is set up to make you think in the context of things you already know. When we allowed ourselves to self segregate into schools of thought was the beginning of a generation of incredibly bright, but intellectually lazy and overeducated thinkers who increasingly find originality out of their reach on a macro scale. That's what it feels like sometimes.

I watched one of his videos before. Can't remember which one.
