My favorite bookstore just announced they were closing for good today because of the Covid-19 shutdown. I've been going there for 15 years. Fuckin sucks

Feels bad man. I fear the day that Barnes and Noble is the only bookstore around. Soon we may not be able to buy any books not written by Stephen King and Michelle Obama.

So sorry to hear, anon.
Mine claims online to still be open. It’s very far so I haven’t visited since January.
I hope they make it

Are you friends with owners at all? Might be nice to send them an email and maybe invite them over for wine once this is over.

I feel that but at this point I'll be glad if any physical bookstores remain after this--B & N or no.

I'm pretty acquainted with them. I've known they've had sales concerns in the past couple of years but they have another store about 20 minutes away that they said is still open. This decision was made within the past 24 hours basically. I've purchased countless books there. Spent hours in the café doing work, reading, drinking coffee...met people there that have since become friends. One of my best ex-girlfriends worked there. Holidays they had a jazz trio come in on weekends and play Christmas music. I've many great memories there and this feels like getting kicked in the stomach.

We have a second hand market stall that keywords adding new bookshelves, even in front of existing bookshelves. Its like a fractal. You have to duck in many places. I would be gutted if it closed. I know that feel OP.
Also, I visit Hate On Wye, the 'town of books' near the Wales/ England border. It has a crumbling manor/ castle and used to have its own king. He just claimed he was king and the town went with it. Last time I went they had all raised their prices to online prices. The king died last year, really sad. Used to bring back a good haul but I couldn't justify it.

Avoid Florida, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and pretty much all of the south except Virginia. Try somewhere in New England, Portland, Maine seems pretty comfy.

Thats my point though: all the booksellers will be corporate kike-owned bookstores. Local bookstores that might actually carry edgy/subversive/alternative literature will all be gone. You literally just restated my post and pretended that it was a response. You are honest to god the dumbest fucking cunt on this board.

Yeah dude I'm sorry, sounds shitty and points to a greater problem about the loss of simplicity in life. I remember when I was in college and would go to the cafe and read all day, but unfortuantely that time in my life is over. It sucks to see all those memories crushed and stomped. It truly does. One thing I always dreamed of doing as a kid was movie to a small town in the midwest and open a bookstore/coffee shop/indie film theater, but that is seeming more and more unlikely as the years go by.

I hate to hear that. I've been worried about a little bookstore I used to visit a lot in another city. It would be really sad regardless for them to close up, but I've been meaning to go back and use up some store credit.
