What? You wanted to use it on rebbit or something for upvotes?
>- Shit amateurish use of fonts
Do I look like some professional commercial company? It looked nice I used it.
>- Covers not aligned to grid
To trigger you OCD faggots. Look at this pic.
>- No logical or thematic arrangement
Who cares?
>- No vetting or explanation of why the non-classic choices are defendable, thus leaving impressions for most only at suspicion
I listed what I liked from what I read, it's up to you if you want to read it or not. Search for the books and do your own research. I'm not hand holding anyone.
>- Some of the modern picks are fine, but overall it's trashy
I read a lot of trash and found few gems. Those are the best of the lot, and contains what most people ask for. Some of those books would be removed in a version 3.
>- A bot could have made this chart, and better at that
Then program the bot and have it use rebbit as it's data source.

I've been on an off because the shit's that's actually discussed in here (not just namedropped or 'i liked it'/'i didn't') is usually terrible. Take Gorm, all that litRpg and chinese shit as examples, and I don't care about some literal who's writing project. It's not the jewel of 4chan's literature board.
I've been tricked into reading a lot of shit and I suspect it's got to do with the tourists who unironically enjoy VNs and LNs and "open minded" faggots whose taste is indiscernible from the Goodreads 4-5 stars hivemind.

I've listened to one mediocre Star Wars book with impressions and ambient sounds, but only excerpts of Graphic Audio. It seems to me that the sound effects and the music are too loud and distracting from what I've heard. Especially since I'm a hobbyist musician and tend to concentrate too much on that. The acting part seems good though. I just prefer it when the narrator does a good job of personifying the different characters by skill alone.

>the created man who sails out to rescue a woman that for the life of me I still can't parse
Well, that's literally just a retelling of a Greek myth. (The woman is either Nyx or a daughter of Nyx; I don't remember the story's name in academia but I do remember reading it before I read BotNS.) However, in the retelling, the archetypical hero becomes literally that, effectively a protagonist summoned to life directly from someone's brain. That's probably the most meta story in the book. Keep in mind that the protagonist of BotNS is himself basically the same, in that sense. (Read Urth if you don't know what I'm talking about; it's spelled out there.)

lads i just finished the first trilogy of thomas covenant and i have a couple of questions
okay first of all i'm leaning towards continuing to read but i saw a couple of posts made in passing that made me think that maybe the series experiences a remarkable drop in quality after the first trilogy. should i continue?

i have a very high tolerance of meandering if the eventual resolution is satisfying so i enjoyed wheel of time but at the same time i consider it a waste of time to read decently written stories if they lead nowhere so i fucking hated malazan and song of ice and fire

based on that, should i keep going with thomas covenant? fyi next up on my list is the house on the borderland and i'm pretty excited for it, based on how much i loved the night land.

It has a YA vibe at the beginning, but the bullies and high school shit disappears after a few arcs and the story grows darker. Still kind of YA even then, though.

It's overrated, desu. Wildbow's ideas are better than his writing, and the worldbuilding doesn't stand up to scrutiny. I stopped reading around halfway through and just skimmed the rest (the 'Warlord Skitter' part was by far the most fun). The fandom mostly exists on the Spacebattles and Sufficient Velocity forums, with more fanfics than you can shake a stick at--and most of those are Taylor alt-power rehashes.

Worm is pretty long so I will break it down as I remember it without spoiling much other than names.
>beginning: maybe slightly better than most YA, very standard webnovel stuff, nothing special
>when they meet their boss: i recall this being a turning point where it gets pretty good
>endbringer stuff: all pretty solid
>travelers/echidna arc: not great, felt all the way through like it was just padding length for no reason, could have been done without or done much shorter. descent into derpy "dark" stuff but not too bad in that department.
>jack slash & friends: full on grimderp, this is all shit and it makes up like a third of the series. you can't really skim it, either, because buried in the stupid shit are important events
>the end: wildbow remembers what story he meant to tell and it suddenly becomes the best shit ever. the payoff of all of the eyerolling swamp that is the middle of worm is that he learned how to write a bit better during it, and so the last third of the book is pretty fucking great and is what everyone thinks of when they think of worm.
Overall I'd say it's about 60% quality, 40% tumblr trash. It's pretty light reading, I got through it all in a week or two reading on my phone before bed. You don't really have to think too hard about it, so overall I'd say it's worth going through at your own pace just to get to the kino last third or so. I'll also say that you will predict almost nothing about the plot beats of the story correctly other than the big overarching obvious stuff, so don't bother trying to guess what'll happen, just go along for the ride.

The king of litrpg. The plot progresses slowly, but at specific points it accelerates a lot to keep the plot interesting. Good world building, mary sue MC, very good monsters/antagonists, very good power level descriptions.

Original introduction to VR world, fast paced writing, not bad power levels, good monsters, not bad antagonists. Tends to be repeatable at later books.

>Reborn: Apocalypse series, L.M. Kerr
Shit world building, shit writing, shit everything...

>The System Apocalypse series, by Tao Wong
Very good post apocalyptic plot, very good characters/monsters/antagonists, MC is again a mary sue, but the battles are a little too intellectual and tend to be boring.

POV of a dungeon, fun at first, repeatable and boring as it progresses.

No, Tencent is a scourge to every entertainment industry in which it involves itself and it's in basically everything. It'a also in most everything in general.

I don't think people realize that Tencent is one of the most powerful and influential corporations in the world.

China Literature (Tencent, largest ebook publisher in China)
>contracts with more than 8 million writers
>authors are required to unconditionally hand over the copyright for all content and no longer require consent for anything done
>removal of the platform’s paywall for all content on the site in favor of a free content business model that relies on advertisements as its primary revenue source, The potential move will lower writers’ income, which primarily comes from subscription fees and tips from their readers.

Tencent is the largest videogame company in the world.
>Riot Games (League of Legends)
>Almost full ownership of Grinding Gear Games (Path of Exile)
>not quite majority ownership of Epic (Fortnite)
>partial ownership of Ubisoft and Blizzard Activision
>partial ownership of Bluehole (PUBG)
>partial and full ownership of tons more
>"partnership" with many

Tencent Pictures
Where Hollywood films and much else are made certain that their content doesn't offend the Chinese government or they don't get funding and support. The Chinese market is huge.

Social Media
>TikTok
>WeChat (over 1 billion monthly users)
>partial ownership of Snapchat
>unclear ownership of Discord

>Music
>partial ownership of Spotify
>partial ownership of Universal Media Grouo

>partial ownership of Tesla

>partial ownership of over 600 companies

Tencent Credit is Tencent's implementation of China's social credit score system.

China uses anything other than WeChat to pay for anything less and less. It may come to the point where it's rather difficult to interact at all economically in China without their support.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tencent achieved basically a monopoly over the Chinese economy and fused with the government. Then with that support took and the power of the "free market" took over much of the world in terms of economics.

I've only enjoyed the extremely well known fantasy series at this point. His Dark Materials, LotR, Harry Potter. I'm looking for a tight but epic adventure that hits lots of tones - serious, light hearted, scary, romantic - and has a singular goal with twists and turns rather than a sprawling narrative like ASOIAF but still feels like the goal is epic.

Honestly LotR is the best model, medieval is fine, although I'd like to read something like that in a variety of eras and cultural tones and not just European medieval.

(The Silmarilion was great but as a biblical narrative style rather than character driven it isn't really what I have in mind).

Because they don't have much of a story really, most games don't. The gameplay dictates the story and the characters usually aren't developed. The plot can be described as convoluted when being entirely generous. I could go into this in-depth, but this isn't really the place. A lot of the FF games are more science fantasy really though.

There are final fantasy novelizations and other short official works though.

Examples:
https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XIII:_Reminiscence_-tracer_of_memories-

https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XIII_Episode_Zero_-Promise-

Novelization of videogames are generally a bad idea. I've read a few.

One of the problems is that the writing is also the least concern for most games, though not as much recently, where they just have random people with no writing skills to write everything.
Not that say that a lot of fantasy isn't much better though or that I don't enjoy it for what it is.
A lot of it is the player's imagination, a lot of exposure to other works, and a positive feeling from the gameplay influencing what they think of the story.
