Women have hysterics all the time. Except now we call them "bipolar" or "manic depressive". These are largely female conditions.

bipolar has the same rate in both sexes. It's Borderline that is something like 3x as prevalent in women.

>19th century romance
>Woman swoons
>Has to be carried to safety by male rescuer

Why doesn't modern fiction do this? It's a great way to make female characters look vulnerable, especially if they seemed unattainable or emotionally unflappable beforehand. It also helps show that male characters have heroic qualities.

When a women faints, her life is entirely in your hands. Instead of taking advantage of her unconsciousness, you take her to safety like a gentleman. When she recovers, she will be grateful to have a strong man to catch her when she falls and fall in love with you on her own accord.

Why does modern fiction always portray women as competant professionals? When's the last time you read about a women fainting or going into hysterics in a work of modern literature?
