Seems like it would be quite a comfy, peaceful exercise. When I went driving across the western US in 2018, since I was alone basically the whole time, those evenings around the campfire entailed a lot of silent staring, thinking, longing...
Although the sense at the time was one of sadness and hopelessness, I still think there was a benefit to dwelling on it from an "outside" perspective, if only to get a handle on its source.

I meditate already and if I want to do focus/object-oriented stuff I just use any household object like a cup or something.

I remember watching a short documentary on Vimeo a few years ago about some veterans who were instructed by a meditation teacher to do some candle gazing. These men were pretty badly afflicted with PTSD, and it seemed to help them somehow. A few of them attributed their success entirely to candle meditation.
