Because you want to just read the dialogue but you have to keep reading who is speaking and it disrupts the natural rhythm of conversation also the stage directions if it has any.

I feel like plays don't reach the depths of literature (other than Shakespeare don't derail my point) and don't reach the heights of film, it's like the worst of both worlds
Acting, sets, visual storytelling, etc is done better in film
Exploration of themes is done better in literature
There's also a lack of subtlety in plays, it always feels like they're saying shit then looking at the audience/reader like "see? that's the theme there." Too many nudges at the audience
