I like that suggestion, but he's a good inner city kid, but I don't think it's gonna be that easy for him to keep getting the animorphs book. Don't think they sell em in stores anymore.

Or it gives another disturbing option, give mine away.

Bridge to Terabithia, remember when are teacher read that to us in 4th grades and I baww'd :'(

She also read us Rolling Thunder, Hear my Cry. Such a horrible book to read to a bunch of 4th graders... such a horrible book overall.

How the fuck did you get away with that? I think the other kids would have eaten me alive if I showed that kind of weakness.

I was maybe 11 or 12 when I read them (for the first time) but I thought A Wizard of Earthsea and The Tombs of Atuan were awesome.

The Tombs of Atuan is possibly my favourite book.

Not sure if the c/lit/s here would agree, but when I was younger I thought this book was a piece of literary genius.

...duuuude. I had completely forgotten about the Redwall series. I loved those books when I was younger.

I second this recommendation.

I still have mine, but I never finished it.

I read the entire Narnia series when I was in 4th grade. Not once did I ever realize that it was christian based until I was much much older. It was still pretty awesome at that age to me, but I wish I would have read Redwall instead.

Get him a collection of Calvin and Hobbes or comic books. It'll at least teach him that some stuff is fun to read.

In 4th grade I was reading Star Wars expanded universe novels and whatever other sf I could find that wasn't totally incomprehensible.

My friend and I had long discussions over how the cupboard could be used and misused, and especially which action figures would be hilariously disastrous to put in.

Pic related, he came up a lot.

White Fang was pretty cool.

Alternatively just grab heaps of hard Sci Fi and insist on reading it to them. S'what my granpa did to me.
