I've got a question to anyone that read this one. Simple and foolish question, most definitely, but I'll explain it so bear with me.

Is it about solitude?
Does it give you have that empty, depressing feeling when you read it?

The thing is I've watched this film called Every Jack Has a Jill. It's an average film, nothing special or extraordinary its just that I identified myself with this lonely main character that loved this book. The thing is, I'm in a depressing and lonely mood and want to read something similar.

it's more about the haughty isolation with which the entire buenida family conducts its human affairs, and how that doomed the family to be wiped from the earth's surface and swept into the dustbin of history in the end

at least that was my take. read the last paragraph again.

Ah, thanks. It's still on my to-read list, it just won't be jumping higher.

Any suggestions on books with solitude as a theme? I'd be even interested in some monastic work if anyone knows any.

You should read Camus's "The Fall."

It's not "about" loneliness, per se, but it does have the feeling of reaching out in solitude.

"Crime and Punishment," of course.

I agree with this.

Also, The Stranger has solitude themes, but its not strong. Still a classic if you haven't read it yet.
