This will make is more difficult to 'understand' since so much of the fanbase's interpretation of it is filtered through the headcanon they've accumulated over the past 25 years, meaning that looking this shit up will bias you towards thinking that their interpretations are more well founded than they are.

>Its true thats its more complex that we think?

It's, at the least, a lot more full of ambiguous possibilites than a lot of people, specifically though with the impression that "it explains everything if you pay attention", seem to think. Like, the more you consider it, the clearer it is that you can have no concrete understanding of it without basically reading into things, making stuff up, and then coming up with elaborate excuses as to how the things that don't match up with your ideas could make sense. It's an utter clusterfuck beyond anything else in the medium.

the references aren't subtle at all really, it's just a matter of knowing them. other than that just know that the big meaning of it all is to stop being a stupid self-pitying NEET and take control of your life.

It's more cool than complex

A big quality of the show is showing you just enough info about its stuff that you become attached, despite not fully understanding it

"Fichte - die Bestimmung des Menschen" is EoE the book German Idealism Edition. Specifically considering the "one must make actions and what is to be pursued in this: friendships and shit like that". Basically Shinji's newfound conviction in accepting his situation and learning one must always make decisions and bare the bad as enjoy the good no matter the predicaments.

There is also a more contemporary american philosopher named "Iris Murdoch" who employs the ethical theory of "really looking".
Basically:
>usually we view people in a distorted manner (prejudices, selfish desires, etc.)
>love is a practice where we learn to get a truer image of the person and through love we get this more accurate and jsut image (epistemologically)
David Velleman continues this:
>love is not jsut emotional but rational
>we learn to value the others as who they are (Kantian sense of "Würde des menschen")
>we cast off our own shells as we see others for who they are and see to love and respect them as ends in themselves never as a mean
Basically the whole AT field and overcoming it to form bonds with others.

The best part about Evangelion is the visual and sound direction, you don't need to read anything.
If the instrumentality or the "world of freedom" sequences don't bring a tear to your eye, you're a confirmed hylic.
