So, then what is the best book for the layman to understand statistics?

taleb is going to die while incoherently mumbling through his dementia the words 'fat tails'

someone should draw a portrait of Taleb in traditional Arabic dress, but with a fat tail attached

But he's right. Thanks to coronavirus, I have had to explain fat tails to numerous people because they don't understand that they are comparing a multiplicative fat-tailed process in Extremistan in the subexponential class to a thin-tailed process, particularly one that has Chernoff bounds from Mediocristan.

Mr. Taleb is not Arab. He is Phoenician.

Taleb says to understand probability first.

You just add all the numbers up and divide by the number of numbers.

Might as well ask how a layman can understand mathematics. You have to make yourself not a layman.

First you must learn probability theory, stochastic variables, stochastic calculus, bayesian probabilities. You should learn the probability distributions. You need to learn these things to understand the normal distribution which is used a lot in statistics and econometrics.

just get som uni textbooks on probability and statistics.

Lebanese are literally direct descendants of the Phoenicians. Also, funny you say that he has no physical resemblance to Phoenicians but continue to call him an Arab despite him looking nothing like one.

He’s an arab in the same sense Moroccans and Egyptians and Libyan are arabs. Maybe not technically since they aren’t gulf arabs but still broadly “arab”. Not all arabs are dark olive skinned and hooked nose btw anon that’s just primarily the gulf
