Currently trying to learn a new language e.g. Arabic, Russian and Spanish.
Any resources on these will be appreciated.

>> No.15098506

Someone posted a Mega folder the other day with resources on all sorts languages:

https://mega.nz/folder/Dvoh3RgR#nDx-uTuQ2nLLkmt5NSbP_g

But other than that, there's a language learning general on /int/, that might be a better place to look for resources.

Today in the morning I was making Anki flashcards off unknown words I was coming across while reading a German Wikipedia article on the history of Mongolia and a thought came to my mind - why the fuck am I doing this instead of learning something that'll actually help me get a job that'll give me economic stability like web page design with CSS and JavaScript?
I was unable to find an answer to that, and just kept on flashcarding.

Trying to learn English, lads, could you give me some advice?

It's difficult to say.
Back when I started as a teenager, I was learning German because I associated Germany with important intelligent scientists and thought that if I wanted to be an engineer I'd have to go study in Germany.
But then I thought that if I wanted to feel at home elsewhere, I'd need to be familiar with both the local culture and the language, so I decided to learn a bunch of other languages, like French, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, etc., none of which I made much progress in. I also thought I'd need to learn about philosophy and religions to understand the roots of different cultures' ways of thinking and the origins of the sciences.
Eventually I decided that if I wanted to get good at reading German, I'd probably have to read lots of literature and assorted prose in order to understand philosophical works, but after that I just got into reading history articles on German Wikipedia, so one day I somehow realized that philosophy wasn't really gonna help me get a job in Germany or anywhere else so I switched over to studying programming, but never got much progress done in that.

To be honest, I kind of enjoy reading about mythological heroes or old warriors from the past or people who sacrificed themselves for the sake of their country, but I can't say I like the actual process of having to mentally decode sentences in a foreign language I'm strongly unfamiliar with and somehow try to construct pictures into them.
The one language I kind of remember enjoying learning was Japanese partly because I like learning new kanji but also partly because I associate it with manga and that sort of stuff.
But then the question is: why am I learning German if nobody's ever gonna give me any reward of it and I'm probably not likely to ever get to the level where it'll be as easy for me to read something in German as it would in English?

I don't think you understand what I intended to communicate at all, but I'm not gonna try to justify myself to somebody who is uncapable of formulating any sort of reply beyond a generic Wojak single-liner greentext image post.

LingQ is pretty great. It's buggy and has a steep learning curve but the fundamental design principles are the best of any language app I've seen. I like it because it's the only one that's really useful for intermediate level learning.

Software.
I first thought of Industrial Engineering, then Civil, after which I spent 4 semesters in general Humanities studies mostly reading select works from the Canon in my spare time, and finally settled on Software Engineering after seeing that Wittgenstein solved all problems of philosophy.
