The Vatican Observatory helped fund and is the largest outside contractor of the Wetzell satellite complex pictured. There is no contradiction. God causes us to look to the stars. Without God, man fixes his gaze toward creatures and toward useless sensual indulgences that accomplish and do nothing. Redditors pretend to be scientists but their interest is superficial. They waste most of their time masturbating and corrupting themselves in carnal affairs. Reading the comment history of the average redditor makes you understand how eternal torment is a just punishment for turning away from God.

I fucking hate Reddit so much. Their entire concept of what constitutes quality art is whether it makes you go "Oh hey, that's pretty cool!", or not. Their critical thinking skills are abysmal. They are only capable of parroting opinions they've already heard before. People have accused 4chan of being generally highly contrarian, but that is preferable to the Reddit hive mind, where everyone writes their posts identically and shares the shame opinions to the degree that every post sounds like the exact same whiney Reddit voice in my head as I read them. That whole site is just an enormous circle jerk where pathetic males with middling intelligence go to have their opinions validated and to feel smart when they read a "hella epic" r/sciencefact about how big Saturn is compared to mars or some shit.

Reddit is populated by cretins who are satisfied with the only the most vapid and soulless kinds of endeavours found on this spinning ball of decomposing human waste we call earth. They are interested only in things that bring immediate gratification with little to no thought required. The mantra of Reddit is one of "it's just dumb fun, just turn your brain off, bro" a phrase that attempts to invalidate any kind of insight beyond the surface level as being "pretentious".

The worst thing about Reddit however is not the above mentioned behaviours alone, but the ways in which they go about performing them. They do all this with a smug, holier than thou attitude with the belief that they are the most intelligent intellectuals on the internet and that Reddit is the 21st century equivalent of a Greek symposium. This attitude begets only the most virulent disgust from anybody with a degree of intelligence and a passion for the pursuits of the mind.

Actually, he has a point... well, kind of and not in the sense he thinks.

Since American universities recruit a lot of foreign scientists which are from less religious countries and countries with other religions, the statistics don't necessarily deal with the difference between scientists and "normal" people in general. They might as well deal with the difference between Americans and a mixed, international crowd. The general public"´ in Europe for example has a lot more areligious people than the 17% the US has according to these stats.

America has an exceptionally high religiousness, especially in marginalized communities, allowing for large differences.
In countries such as in Europe, where religiousness is uniformly low, the difference between scientists and regular people will by necessity be lower, since the scientists cannot be as much below the rest of the country in religiousness.
