The more romance languages you know, the easier it is to learn a new one. IDK about grammar but Spanish has very easy pronunciation compared to French, only the double R and maybe the J should give you trouble, depending on your mother tongue.

Great anthology, I bought the physical book past year and it’s amazing the amount of authors and the variety of stories contained in one single volume.

I have this anthology in digital too, If someone wants to read quality hispano-American literature, please take a look to this amazing anthology.

Allow me to share 6 great anthologies of short stories and mini and micro fiction, just because.

1. El Cuento Hispanoamericano (The Hispano-American Tale), more than 40 authors, an astounding variety of stories and themes.

2. La Mano de la Hormiga (The Hand of the Ant), another wonderful anthology but this time of micro and mini fiction.

3. Antología de la Literatura Fantástica (The Book of Fantasy), the legendary anthology of Borges, Ocampo y Casares, this anthology doesn’t need presentation, it’s a must.

4. El Libro de la Imaginación (The Book of Imagination) by Edmundo Valadés, good author, amazing anthology of mini and micro fiction, poetry, aphorisms, epigrams, fragments of novels that works as short stories, folktales, etc. More than 400 texts of quality and sorted by themes. My favorite book of the list, comfy reading.

5. El Libro de los Seres Imaginarios (The Book of Imaginary Beings), another classic, What if Borges makes his own bestiary?

6. Antología Universal del Relato Fantástico (Universal Anthology of the Fantastic Tale), More than 50 short stories of well known and unknown authors of several countries. An outstanding work, Jacobo Siruela have great literary taste.

Check >>>/int/lang but it's mostly about learning the grammar while absorbing vocabulary. Once you have read through any grammar book, reading easy literature will help you held into concepts. I think good starter books would be "Cuentos de la Selva" because it's aimed to be an accesible read for children.

Porrúa has some nice translations (Tacitus, Homer, Kant, and Schwob, for example), and their editions of works written in Spanish are adequate and easy to find. There might be better, more updated options, but it's a nice publishing house. El Fondo is also amazing, great catalog and some very good translations. It's a shame its current director is a fucking provintial clown that can never hope to fill the shoes of such a great publishing house.

Im the guy who wanted to write the novella about a glutton.
here is a sample, the novella is called "the third circle"

La gente suele opinar que el campo, la vida rural, es más solitaria y anónima, pero nada está más lejos de la verdad. ¿Qué es más fácil de encontrar; una persona sola en una habitación, o a una persona en una habitación llena de gente? Mientras más gente haya, mientras menos espacio haya para acomodar a la gente, mayor será el apacible anonimato. Es por eso que elijo vivir en la ciudad. Elegí todo para minimizar mi presencia y acentuar la distancia; una casa en un barrio residencial, lejos de los centros urbanos, me las arreglaba para salir cuando era aún muy temprano y no había nadie en la calle, y así tomaba diariamente aire y caminaba antes de que cantase el gallo. Como un pedacito de diamante, mi vida era pequeña pero muy sólida, tenía mi rutina, mis horarios, mis manías, y no quería prescindir de nada de eso. Si se mirara desde afuera, desde una perspectiva en tercera persona, solo verían a alguien normal, sin cualidades malas o buenas, una existencia anodina, sosa, como el agua pero sin siquiera tener la cualidad de revitalizar a los frutos de la tierra. No sé qué me lleva a escribir este humilde ensayo, acaso sea un deseo intrínseco, grabado en lo profundo del Ser humano y del que no puede deshacerme.
Uno de mis vicios irrefrenables es observar a la gente, a los individuos dentro de una multitud, como quién quisiera fijar su mirada en una gota de agua en una ola furiosa. Todo lugar donde haya aglomeración, donde se desplace una amorfa masa poblacional me es grato, pues elijo al azar una persona y fijo mi mirada sobre ella, llegando incluso a escribir un pequeño texto imaginando cómo será su vida. Este inocente pero extraño pasatiempo me consume emocionalmente, es una diversión absurda y sin embargo ha sido mi consuelo en algunos de mis días más oscuros. Este afán también me lleva a llevar a cabo rutinas peculiares e inusuales, como tomar el tren a la mañana, y permanecer sentado durante todo el recorrido mirando por la ventana, aunque no haya realmente ningún lugar al que quiera ir. Esta rutina me ha impartido un conocimiento directo e imparcial de la condición humana, de suerte que puedo saber mucho de una persona sólo con mirarla un poco. No hay ninguna aplicación práctica para este sortilegio, salvo la paz interior que me brinda.

En mi defensa, no me considero buen poeta.

El baile:

El tiempo sigue y sigue, y el tiempo pasa y pasa.

Tal parece que a él todo lo persigue.

El tiempo lidera; y todas las cosas van detrás de él como en hilera.

Muy cerca, casi casi que yendo con él.

Pero el tiempo lidera.

Y como en un baile nos agarra pa’ enseñarnos a dónde ir, de las caderas.

Y el tiempo sigue y sigue, y el tiempo pasa y pasa.

Y quien lo pueda bailar al compás, en el propio tiempo se convertirá.

Pero quien crea poderlo bailar al compás, desconoce que en el baile manda uno sólo y pare de contar.
Y el tiempo es música y bailarín en un mismo movimiento.

Y todo el resto se agarra de él.

Queremos ir a su ritmo. Pero desconocemos cómo sigue.

Queremos que se suelte de nuestras caderas y aferrarnos nosotros a las de él.

Queremos comandarlo.

Pero en cuantito más nos acercamos, trastabillamos, porque de repente… ¡Un cambio repentino!

Él un paso hacia adelante, nosotros uno hacia atrás ¡Qué desatino!

Queremos convertirnos en música y bailarín.

Pero vamos detrás por un pelín.

Habida cuenta que no nos podemos convertir en él…

¿Qué podremos hacer?

¿Y si nos desenganchamos?

¿Si nos libramos de sus manos que nos enseñan hacia dónde ir; hacia dónde movernos?

Pues entonces se irá a buscar a otro, porque el tiempo es un bailarín requerido.

Y nos quedamos desolados. Desconocemos la música.

Mientras todos bailan, bien o mal, nosotros nos quedamos quietecitos.

Y entonces nos mandamos a guardar, porque nos damos cuenta que el resto impasible a nuestra actitud rígida, lo sigue bailando; bien o mal.

Y si no nos podemos disfrazar de música y de tiempo: si no nos podemos transformar ni en ella ni en él, tampoco podemos deshacernos de sus lazos y hacerlo desaparecer.

Porque la música y los bailarines continúan, valga la paradoja, inamovibles en su elección de danzar.

¿Y entonces qué hacer?

¿Y si lo mandamos a callar?

¿Y si de un solo gesto hacemos que música y danza se transformen en quietud y en freno?

Y nos esforzamos por hacer de lo que se mueve una escultura; y de lo que suena un silencio.

Nos decimos: Ahora… ¡Ahora!; con ánimos de pararlo.

Pero todo en vano…

Al cabo el ahora se ha transformado en recién.

Y más rato se transformará en antaño.

Y otrora también dijeron ahora.
Pero el tiempo sigue y sigue, y el tiempo pasa y pasa.

Mis siguientes trabajos involucraron el sushi, la cocina árabe, mexicana y griega, y hasta pequeñas pizzerías locales. A medida progresaba mi actividad profesional, no descuidaba mi entrenamiento, al que de hecho consideraba parte de esta; debía mantener un metabolismo rápido y efectivo si quería comer lo necesario para hacerle justicia al establecimiento sobre el cual escribiría. Con esta mentalidad, me abrí paso y poco a poco sentí como una nueva puerta se abría en mi vida, sintiendo nuevos sabores, texturas y olores. Sentía como se extendía ante mis ojos un valle con montañas de diferentes alturas; una jerarquía sensorial, y un hombre subiendo hacia la cima. A partir de ese momento, no me centré tanto en la cantidad, sino en la calidad de lo que comía, y mi jefe me dijo, que ese cambio fue muy grato en mis reseñas, siendo aplaudido por los lectores. Sentía una extraña paz fruto del éxito mundano, y al mismo tiempo no sentía mérito alguno pues me consideraba un humilde catador que describía sus platos. Me causaba incluso risa que mi hábito, del cual no estaba realmente orgulloso, hubiese sido elevado a la categoría de oficio. Orgullo me daba, en cambio, la potencia corporal que había adquirido entrenando, aunque fuese solo un efecto secundario, fruto de mi mezquino deseo de llenar mi vientre.

Luego del frenesí estadístico del casino, Bet me invito a comer unas hamburguesas con queso a un local de comida rápida, que quedaba a unas pocas cuadras, cosa a la que yo accedí. Bet parecía felizmente ajeno a las implicaciones para el futuro de la especie humana del complejo industrial-culinario. Dejé mi gaseosa sin terminar, llevándome el vaso, pues pensaba llevarla a un laboratorio para que la analicen. Quizás encontrarían algún metal pesado en ella, o una nueva molécula azucarada
