Having read and studied key texts on ethics, does /lit/ think that the nonconsensual circumcision of males is ethical from a utilitarian or deontological standpoint?

easier to argue from a deontological standpoint: doing non-consensual. permanent cosmetic surgery is a morally wrong principle.

it violates even the most basic principles of ethics. it's bizarre, because in most cases of bodily autonomy, people can be pretty rational, but for circumcision it's like people have this massive blindspot.

Modern circumcision is a crime against humanity. The traditional religious circumcision done for thousands of years was nowhere near as invasive as modern circumcision, it was only the tip of the foreskin and didn't expose the gland. Modern circumcision is mostly done because foreskin can be sold to pharmaceutical industry, beauty industry, and other industries that use research labs. So the more foreskin stripped off the baby = the more profit, even if it means stripping off some of the muscle tissue.
