I picked up my rosary last night after a long stint of self loathing and degeneracy, I've been listening to readings of Anne Catherine Emmerich on Jesus's agony, and prophecies concerning the church

I was raised Catholic, but it feels like we only ever were told the same few stories and there was way too much focus on tradition and facade. So I grew apart from the church. But I'd like to discover the bible, in particular the Old Testament again, especially after having seen it referenced so many times.

What is a good German translation? I looked up some stuff but it's all so political and annoying, people deciding what version is best by deciding which one fits their beliefs, not so much literary merit.

you answered your own complaint. it's impossible to focus "too much" on tradition, since tradition is the lens of which gives scripture context. Without it, you just end up in endless relativism. Since you were presumably young when you were raised catholic, why not reapproach Catholicism as an adult? Start fresh, with your upbringing simple being a head start. You might be surprised how much you get out of it.

Interested. Recently read Violence and Religion and thought of going in a more literary direction with him after rereading Auerbach's Mimesis (which is what it brought to mind) maybe his first book. I remember reading a synopsis of the one youre reading now and finding it interesting; what's your first impression?
