Which is best for someone getting into tarot - Meditations on the Tarot or Jodorowsky’s book on tarot?

>> No.15034180

The first is St Petersburg via the Baltic states, the 2nd is St Petersburg via South America. It's a matter of taste. So try to read them both.

>> No.15034215

On Divination by Cicero.

Friend just bought me a tarot deck, I'm interested in this too. I find it to be an interesting practice of discussing emotions and feelings in a more methodical sense. The imagery is very thought provoking. Like a platform to jump off of.

I have both. Get the Jodorowsky book to start with. He KNOWS things. Meditations a bit later after you're more familiar with everything.

Jodorowsky. He even restored the Marseilles deck.

This is an incredible analogy, anon. On a sidenote, I’m not Russian but Petersburg has been constantly showing up in my life over the past year. I wonder what it could mean

Thanks for the advice!
I’ve read most of the writers referenced in Meditations, although it really seems like a deep dive even if you know those writers inside out. I still need to finish The Bible too. So, I’ll start with the Jodorowsky book like you advised. His tarot videos are what made me interested in tarot since, like you said, it’s really apparent he KNOWS what he’s talking about.
>>15034217
I fully agree, anon. I’m not sure if the practice is treated as significant entirely due to metaphysics, or if it’s also about just interpreting the archetypes as they’re relevant to the situation. Either way, like you said it‘s interesting how much it reveals and how much study there is behind it. It definitely helps you to consider things from a new angle

>incredible analogy
I am absolutely sure it's a coincidence, the material could have arrived via other paths too. Why it arrived from there is probably because of the revolution that chased it away...

note: he uses the Marsailles deck which is different than the standard Rider-Waite deck. if you want to learn about the cards that everyone sees in popular media ect. this isn't necissarily the best book, but the Marsailles deck is much older than the Rider-Waite deck and much more authentic, so really if you care about authentic divination you won't find a better place to start than Jodorowsky.

>> No.15034798

>>15034617
both the RWS and the Marseilles were made for normies so debating if one is more authentic than the next is kind of... eh...
btw Jodorowski inserted elements which were not present in any Marseilles publication; so not doing your research is just sucking his stinky fat cock

Just finished reading part one of the jodorowsky book, interesting ideas as far as seeing the deck as a whole, what the suits represent, and the evolution of the 1 to 10 discussion as a frame of reference for major and minor.

I picked up a Marseille deck and Jodorowsky's book after a French guy laughed at me when seeing me looking at the Waite cards.

I read just a few chapters from MOT but I think you better start with Jodorowsky since he covers the basics, while MOT though very interesting goes into more esoteric, mystical ideas based on each major arcana card and throws a lot different traditions and names.

Anyone can recommend other books on the Marseille Tarot?

Look at the cards and get the meaning straight off. There isn't one manual to that or anything advanced.

The book in pic related will explain to you EACH CARD. It has card's interpretation by some random guy named Etteilla, and the original Golden Dawn's, and also Waite's. It's very comprehensive for each card.
Though the book doesn't focus on how to use and do the divination.

If you start with the Marseille, yes Jodorowsky is good, but read more than just that. Yoav Ben Dov is ok too.

If you are interested in Waite-type decks, or even Thoth, you should FIRST read Liber T by Mathers or pic related. Mathers' Golden Dawn tarot system is the basis and source of lots of stuffs in both decks.

Or you can forget all this, get a Marseille deck, shuffle and draw some cards and just read it. But pay attention to all the details: SEE. You simply have to See and "meanings" are not that important, dont even have to memorize shit (unless its with Thoth deck at early use) Just remember the less clear your question is the less clear what your answer will be.
