Writers and poets of /lit/, what are some non-literary influences on your work? What influences your novels, short stories, etc. from outside the realm of literature? Artwork, music, film and television, etc.. I'm fascinated by the idea of writers and poets being influenced by other media.

Kieslowski's Dekalog and Klimov's Come and See are having a big effect on some different stories I'm writing now. Quarantine is shockingly fertile for me, against all my expectations. I cleared out my harddrive of about 70 films these past few weeks and there's a lot that's working its way in.

Birds and the vibes humans give off. They are not media and that is why they make good influences.

I've been influenced by a lot of anime over the years. Slice-of-life anime, like Azumanga Daioh, often creeps into my work as an influence. It's hard to fully describe what this looks like; it's in the way those sorts of shows depict the passage of time, and the way time sometimes seems to stand still for the most mundane and low-key of reasons. That's what I love to emulate in prose, as best I can.

On an unrelated note, I once wrote a narrative poem that was influenced by Brahms' 4th Symphony.

Dangerously based.

Unironically Metal Gear game series. To a lesser degree Dark Souls (at least I wrote a series of long lost poems with it as inspiration back in ages past.) Cowboy Bebop. Numerous philosophies and scientific theories.

My creative work is usually inspired by my music taste that mainly consists of Kanye West, Animal Collective, Yes, The Beach Boys, Delicate Steve, and Dan Black.

I also go online to find pictures to save on my Google Photos for reference for my artwork.

The lit inspirations are the regular pomo ponderslogs you'd expect anyone here to have, but for non-lit stuff the big three are: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, One Piece, and the music of かめりあ.

My life, mainly. I'm barely well-read and after becoming a widower only write to channel out my internal soul-searching, emotions and feels, a retrospective of the past. Before that I guess the main influence was love and nature, sometimes music but mainly for rhythm.
