Are there any books that touches on the same subjects as Good Night Punpun, that is, modern times depression, insecurity, failure in achieving their dreams and dysfunctional families?

This manga is just so good and so real, it feels like reading a literary classic.

melodramatic and juvenile
maybe the Hunger Games?

Kek, if you've actually read it you'd know it's very far from being melodramatic and juvenile, it's actually one of the deepest readings out there (books included) about depression in the modern world.

Damaged normalfag who thinks their life is shit when they live like royalty-core? Sure there's plenty of that: Check out anything by Delicious Tacos, Houellebecq, and Osamu Dazai.

What the fuck do you know about my life to assume that I 'live like royalty', motherfucker, despite having several mental and healthy issues, I also have a huge dysfunctional family, that's why I loved Punpun, I saw myself in him, we're extremely alike, I just wanted to read more books like that since life will continue to be shit anyway.

What was the most relatable part for you OP?
For me it was
>punpun's date with kanae (or whatever her name was)
>punpun giving himself a deadline to improve his life before he offed himself
>punpun putting on a new identity so he can talk to girls confidently and to much success (when he thought: "it's almost laughably easy when you aren't particular about being yourself." I couldn't have felt that harder)
It's impressive that punpun's actions remain understandable even as he goes way off the deep end toward the end, a testament to how attuned to his formation the author was.

I liked Punpun's relationship with his parents and uncle, it touched me deeply, the same with Aiko and Seki, the latter might be my favorite character. Punpun and Aiko's journey in the end was also amazing.
>punpun putting on a new identity so he can talk to girls confidently and to much success
I liked that as well, made me think that I could try that IRL.

Punpun is such a masterpiece. Up there with any novel I've ever read. It's one of the deepest explorations of psychology ever written. And the way it plays and subvert genre tropes is really clever. People think it's like this melodramatic edgy thing when in fact it can be really light hearted and absurd, but in an intelligent way, at times. God is a guy with an afro that appears if you pray to him. So good.

Failure is entirely by your own definition. A NEET can be a success if he knows it to be true, but begging on the internet for sympathy is a disgusting way to emasculate yourself.

Hey anon, I loved goodnight punpun it hit in places where I didn't even know I could be emotionally touched.

If you want something with the same kind of melancholy and emotional themes try spring snow by Murakami. Although the main character isn't the same as punpun the ideas of youth and loss of hope are there.

If you want something western maybe notes from underground by Dostoyevsky? It's a short but poignant exploration of mental illness told in first person by a shut in narrator, but it ends on a positive note.

I hope this helped.

Just to give you some actual advice:

He’s not really contemporary, and this place is turning him into a meme, but you might like Yukio Mishima. Try Confessions of a Mask, The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea, or Temple Of The Golden Pavilion.
