No, metamodernism is a joke

that's just people posting silly wojak memes about the bible

It's actually Meta-Irony or Post post-irony

>> No.15028355

it's just ordinary irony. in fact very simple and basic irony.

In my time, we called it shitposting.

It's not though. Meta-Irony takes it back to the first level (irony) but clothes it with post-irony.

So it's actually irony wrapped in post-irony = Meta-Irony.

but it's almost like they know that everyone else knows that they're being ironic twits yet they do it any way. there's a metacognition going on.

it's just people mocking a particular viewpoint by expressing it with memes. a simple kind of irony that's been in use for thousands of years.

all irony is performed with the idea that others are going to recognize it. what would be the point otherwise?

in fact it's the lowest kind of irony, really obvious and exaggerated sarcasm.

normal irony is supposed to parody someone else. But this form of irony knows that it is extremely stupid, yet does not care anyway. I am not saying the gentlemen in this screenshot are particularly clever, I am saying that they're stupid in a specific way of knowing that they look stupid, yet act it out all the same.

i don't think this is true. i think they just enjoy the meme and think it's funny, and they expect others will also find the meme funny. and they do. it actually is a little funny in my opinion.

>> No.15028452

>>15028410
Here's a good explanation
>regular irony is saying “I’m a fool” while not actually being one. Post-irony is saying “I’m a fool” and being one. Meta-irony is saying “I’m ironic about being a fool”.

i don't see what this has to do with the thread in the op pic, which is just people applying a silly meme to an unexpected context and creating humor from it.

Lol I haven't been on here in years. People are still asking this question? Metamodernism is a nothing burger.

yes, but im asking about the way they enjoy it.

Notice this: Both parties in the OP image are supposed to be making fun of each other right. But, they are both using the same exact style of shitposting that can be adapted to parody anything. You can put "heckin memerino" and a soijack on anything, and hey, look, you're doing irony!

But this is where it becomes meta. Both parties *know* that their parody can be adapted to anything, and yet they do it anyway. They know its meaningless and yet it do it anyway, because a meaningless gesture is irony in itself. Gestures cannot actually not be meaningless, but it's almost like this one is.

it's just a meme that can be easily used to make fun of anything and it's the one that happens to be popular right now, so they use that one. simple as that. nothing more going on here.

yeah, I get that, trust me, I've grown up on this shithole internet, but I don't know man. It seems like it's just so absolutely devoid of content, yet still acted out in a sense that doesn't even seem to know if its being serious or not. Feels paradoxical to me is all I guess.
