I finally started another book, Turgenev’s Fathers and Sons. What should I expect? Did any of you read it? Is it any good?

I'm a few chapters in. I'm pleasantly surprised; it's enjoyable and easy reading. Although it's 19th century social commentary, it isn't as opaque as I thought it might be, as the core message (as of chapter 6) is about the bittersweetness family and ageing.

Just fucking read it.

My favorite book, and probably will be for some time. It both stoked my obsession with pre-revolutionary Russia and was the first ‘real’ novel I fell in love with. It gets better every time I read it. Turgenev is a marvelously clean writer, and not a word is out of place. There are moments of great humor, and he depicts human moments with a sort of positive naturalism, far from Zola and Frank Norris. Besides the politics, it’s just an amazing book about the lack of understanding between generations, and the lack of understanding new generations have for themselves.

It's a great book. I couldn't even put it down. As >>15015760 points out, it does a good job highlighting intergenerational conflict, which is relevant nowadays with boomers vs zoomers.
