Very entertaining and sometimes enlightening.

I've read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Rum Diary and excerpts from the gonzo papers and parts of Kingdom of Fear. Still think Rum Diary is the best. He has interesting insight on the way people are and how the world works.

The world lost a great man the day he was murdered.

I once bought weed from a giant biker dude who was reading Hell's Angels and we talked about it for a while.

He felt that HST was "full of bullshit" and he used several ethnic slurs against Sonny Barger. This is a terrible anecdote but it's all I have and I wanted to bump this thread

I'm proud that some many Canadians are on /lit/. Anyway, this thread made me sad. Goodnight sweet Prince. RIP Peter Mansbridge.

He died of natural causes, man.

>> No.1500360

get your ass out to Woody Creek Tavern and check out where HST lived. It's really beautiful.
See "Breakfast with Hunter" doc.

His books are a good read, one of my favorite authors. Saying that, I do not believe I could handle being around him in real life. Better to be a fly on his wall.

>> No.1501176

rum diary and hell's angels are both solid reads. he has a few other short stories worth a look at if you like the style on these.

but i gotta say, the kentucky derby is decadent and depraved and fear and loathing in las vegas are his best stuff. everything after that really went downhill.

Shit, cat. I love me some Campaign Trail '72 but otherwise you're right

The local used book store has a special sign on one of their bookshelves. They put "The Doctor is In" if they have ANY of HST's books in the store, and "The Doctor is Out" otherwise. That says something.

Has anyone else read "The Great Shark Hunt"? It's a collection of shorter writings, about half of them pre-"Kentucky Derby". I don't see it around much anymore.
