A few years later they offered to take me to Attack of the Clones or whatever it was called and I told them to go fuck themselves.

those things factually do not happen. the people he kills are not his friends, he does not kill his wife and he is never legitimately on palpatine's side. his motivation was not originally family but universal justice and the transformation into vader is not a failure but a rebirth into a pure manifestation of his ethical mission. he is the first christian in a pagan universe.

Anakin really is a good character on paper
The chosen one who gets randomly plucked out of nowhere then instead of fulfilling the prophecy is driven to corruption by the very people who thought he was the chosen one to begin with
It's like a reverse self fulfilling prophecy a nice trope subversion on multiple levels

The Prequels are top-tier Hyperborean epics with courages and serious characters, grand and majestic landscapes, adventurous storylines, and cinematically stunning action sequences--perfect for a generation of budding philosophers heroes. Have you ever wondered why gynocrats like your picrelated piss themselves over the Abrams sequels, whereas the prequels are unanimously regarded as stupid and unappealing? It is because their estrogenic sensibilities detect the resurgence of Apollonian tragedy and patriarchy in the fatherly assurance of Qui-Gon, in the numinous Amidala, in the absence of feminist tropes and sentimentalism, in the lack of Reddit-tier witticisms. The genuine aesthetic grandeur of Naboo makes them quake with fear.

You can enjoy something for different reasons. As a child you might like the action and the comic relief characters, as an adult you appreciate the underlying themes.

lol quigon is not a positive character. he's a misguided religious fundamentalist (compared to a scientologist via the midichlorians device) whose job is to intimidate people as an enforcer for a corrupt government. he doesn't have any objections to the institution of horrifying child slavery until a particular child slave happens to match his goofy beliefs, at which point he cements the obliteration of his religion by fucking up his long-awaited messiah with the injustice of not saving his mother.

the point of quigon is to establish that obiwan lied (again) and the jedi were in fact an awful cult of rich mutant-worshipping cunts that deserved to get wiped out by vader's righteous rage.

and then, after committing to the dark side for most of his adult life, redeems himself by destroying it and fulfilling the prophecy after all. Truly a beautiful and epic character arc. I expect the zoomer collective unconscious to will the Anakin archetype into existence with the next 20 years.

there's nothing "on paper" about it. it's executed very well, it's just that it happens to be insulting to the fandom so everyone got mad. young vader was "supposed" to be cool, and not a whiny broken manchild who fucks his own surrogate mother. people expected fanservice and got this weird experimental psychosexual narrative about child abuse and the failure of liberalism. doesn't mean it's not top notch.

The first time I saw this image I realized how correct it was and how wrong anti prequel fegs were.

Episode 3 in particular is one of the best examples of tragedy in modern times. The pacing is excellent, the atmospheric sense of dread that occurs in the first half of the movie is palpable, and the final tragic fall of anakin to obiwan on Mustafar can bring a tear to my eye even now.

>desires power
>trusts authority figure blindly without critical thinking
>strangles his wife because he just can't be reasoned with
>becomes a cyborg in service to an evil empire, betrays and murders many men, women and children, including his own mentors, and later his own subordinates
>uses torture
>somehow gets redemption anyway
Bad writing.

more nonsense. "defeating the emperor" is revealed in the prequels to be a false goal, because the republic was awful long before palpatine was in power and he was only able to gain control of it because of how awful it already was. quigon actively helps him! why would it matter that the guy in power is now a single satanist instead of a bunch of rich senators? in the pre-emperor republic, a "guardian of justice" hears about the practice of cutting open a child and putting a bomb inside and goes "okay, but i'm on a government mission to kill people who are protesting taxes". this is the situation the rebellion is fighting to restore.
