I am making a movie which explores human consciousness. What are the greatest, most in depth or simply must read books on this subject.

Nobody has written any books on the subjekt, sorry pal. Better luck next time.

Technically, every book explores human consciousness, in some way.

Define "making a movie", because if you actually just started any sort of actual production on a film, you don't have time to read books on the topic which forms the foundation of your product.

Julian Jaynes' book lacks any real evidence (except for "muh Illiad"), is written in a dramatic and even polemical unscientific style, and features one of the most ridiculous explanations of consciousness? ALSO: IT'S FUCKING GREAT. I second the book. It's a mind-blowing and extremely human book, is it perfect? No, but Jaynes was one of the few people who was really onto something. Everyone who has read it was moved by.
