For the same reason that drug addicts claim that psychedelics open the mind instead of just pervesing vision, alcohol shades the mind and offers an image of the world steeped in muddied images. If you need a substance to enhance the divinity of the world, then you’re not looking at it clearly enough in the first place. People that need substances to be persuaded to see beauty are fundamentally spiritually bereft.
