Best version/translation?

I'd automatically go KJV, but I have a few problems with it, one of them being that it's outdated (no Dead Sea scrolls, for example). Apocrypha in the version is very welcome.

NKJV is the only one I know, but it doesn't use the Dead Sea Scrolls and other finds too, just modernises the KJV.

What about Jehova's Witness Bibles or the evangelical ESV?

Douay-Rheims or King James if you can't read the ancient tongues.

Otherwise, go straight to the source.

Are you sure pre-Dead Scrolls Bibles are still reliable translations?

New World Translation by Jehovah's Witnesses is actually a very good rendition. I believe it is online too.

New Oxford Annotated Bible is the best; it's most faithful to the original, plus it has footnotes (very useful when reading a text so full of metaphor).

NEVER go for KJV, as it is the most heavily censored version.

I'm not sure I like them much for normal reading. These two translations will be very useful to look at the precise meaning of a certain passage or chapter, though.

Probably my favourite so far, the notes seem useful. What do they talk about in the notes? Meaning of words? Historical context? Their interpretations?
