I've never understood how dedicating a book works. What the fuck does it mean? Normally, if you dedicate something to someone, you give (literally or symbolically) that something to someone. If that's the case, aren't most books implicitly dedicated to the anonymous reader? Then why the "dedicated to me mum xoxo" shit?
