14878755 No.14878755 [Reply] [Original]

I've stockpiled a lot of books from Barnes and Nobele throughout my winter quarter just in case the coronavirus somehow causes a nationwide power outage.

Plus, I want more inspiration for stories and characters.

From these pile of books, what would you guys recommend I read first?

Honestly, the Divine Comedy. Then order the Edgar Allan Poe one.

Man all that old stuff bores me to tears. Not one of those authors has anything meaningful to say about life in 2020

Either that or they are so bereft of taste that they prefer the garish style. (The books in the OP are technically hardcovers, btw. They are just vulgarly painted over instead of wearing dust covers.)

Horribly edited books, some with dozens of typos (despite being their “collectible” line) and using shitty, 1800s translations because they’re public domain

Hardcovers are irritating to read and are uncomfortable to hold. Barnes and Noble paperbacks usually nail the size and weight for books.

There's value in folk tales and mythology, even if the OP's sources are of dubious quality. Alice in Wonderland isn't a hard read by any measure and should be read if only per its cultural impact. He did say he wants inspiration.

Dude the tales from Ireland are literally the foundation of Ulysses if he had used your advice FW and Ulysses wouldn't exist. I think all of that sort could have great classic stories.

Sadly the covers are the best part about them. The paper is pretty much see through.
