wtf no one told me that this was going to be even more challenging than Gravity's Rainbow

Still really enjoying though. What are your thoughts on this faux-Georgian tome?

Though I didn't find it near so challenging as GR- I mean there's the transit of Venus stuff, then the adventures along the line they're drawing (so it's relatively easy to keep what's going on together)- I really enjoyed it for both its energy and color. I love his writing in general despite his standing as a jaded meme. He works for me.

Im 200 pages in and liking it. I havent read any of his other works. Its not that challenging but I'm probably a genius. I like how he blends surreal episodes directly into the narrative and uses the stilted pseudo-1700s grammar to make ironic posts in his own book.

Here's a reference to Blood Meridian, perhaps it's been caught before.

Are you a Pynchon fan? What's his best?

Unfortunately I didn't finish it. I made the mistake of picking it up while I had a heavy work+school load so I couldn't keep up. Not as complex as GR in terms of sheer complexity and abundance of elements, but the vernacular of the book took some getting used to for someone who is used to contemporary lit. Great book though, Pynchon really nailed the setting and style as far as my layman's perspective is concerned.

dif anon but a fan
favorite's V., his one modernist novel: it's simply amazing. Not one sympathetic character yet (still) true in a 'social' way it's very hard to articulate; precisely why I guess it needed to be written. Also it's beautiful. Anyone else out there find Pynchon's aesthetics dazzling? It's rarely discussed.
