>"The last man on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door."

While this bit of writing is entertaining I don't see how it counts as a complete story in itself. It just seems like a quick set up and a twist. I'm not arguing that it's not a story. I literally just don't get it. Can someone explain how this constitutes as a complete story?

Too many superflous words.

"Last man on earth heard a knock on the door" is sufficient.

I've started studying and practicing the art of story writing about 2 months ago. I know a few concepts but im not very confident about myself in general. So i'm wondering what you guys think.

My best theory is that Because the Final Revelation Voids the Assertion/Main Problem in the Set up, that technically counts as a completed Arc.

The completed arcs happen twofold, one at the beginning, and one at the end of this piece; thus, the two act piece that you see, in fact, is sufficient as a story but, alas, doth not interest the reader beyond surface terms

it is a complete story even if it's incomplete because the real set-ups and pay-offs are implied. like in music when you go "doot do lo doot do..." and the "doot doo" is implied. except there are multiple possibilites. but you get that feeling of possibilites from what's already presented and so the mystery itself is fullfiling.
