Modernity is a euphemism for domestication. Ask a dog if he enjoys his status, he will nod, as his existence is inherently to his status. Ask a bugman the same question and you will get the same answer.

one thing though: criticisms of it are often modernistic, misrepresenting what was or could be is modern. these sorts wouldn't actually like or be suited to a pre or postmodern world because they cant understand it.

Imagine feeling as if your death was meaningless, or worse, that in dying you spread this microscopic virus to others and caused them to die meaningless deaths as well.

Now compare that to spending every ounce of your life trying to defend something greater than yourself. That your death had a purpose, a purpose that will outlive you.

A few seconds of the agony of a blade seems trivial in comparison. Especially because you could say days of sickness may actually be less enjoyable.

On the other hand you might feel pretty based and proud of yourself for dying in the right way.

Some soldiers have written favourable of their experiences in battle. There was a German that wrote of the glory of combat following the First World War and I dont remember his name. He fared pretty badly; had his lungs fill up with blood, but he still saw it as having been spiritually and emotionally good for him.

"Purpose".

If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,—
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

I said *some* soldiers. Obviously, individual experiences varied dramatically; the very negative view may even have predominated.

A lot might depend on the culture you grow up in. German soldiers after WW1 seem to have been highly militaristic, still, rather than turning into war-weary pacifists the way the 'war poet' view of war as pure horror implies they should have done.

You don't know what you're talking about. You do not die peacefully from most illnesses. This is a fiction told to families of the deceased to make them feel better but in actuality most deaths are pretty similar.

Way better to succumb to some invisible disease, withered, then to die fighting at the peak of your strength for honor.

I do not believe in senseless combat or chasing false glory. But if we were to rank ways to die, succumbing to some virus is pretty low on my choices. What if you died fighting a murderer who broke into your house? What if your death saved your children's lives? That's what we're comparing.

Wrong about what? There is a certain kind of person who wants to taste the absolute pinnacle of life, the truest moment, the absolute confirmation of your own being, and knows the only thing that can satisfactorily follow a moment like this is death because otherwise you would forever be living a hollow shadelike life that could never compare. Like staying at a party for too long.

But not everyone feels that way. It isn't correct or incorrect. A lot of reactionaries LARP this attitude and think it is the only way to live, and this betrays their humanist universalism which assumes the interchangeability of all people. They fail to understand that individuals are built for different tasks and trying to convince yourself that you are meant to be a war hero who dies basked in glamour and glory on the battlefield when your soul is so thoroughly meek and mercantile is absurd and destructive.

The fact is this shitty world you hate is a world you were bred for, and is the world among all worlds you are most suitable to inhabit. Not only this but the ethnic gangs of Blacks and Latinos who glamourize the ride or die lifestyle, killing and being killed by the time they are 22, are closer to the Greek ideal than a hunchback masturbation addicted 4chan poster who works in IT or whatever.

You make quite a lot of assumptions there. If any of us were born into a hunter gatherer society we would all make it fine. Environment shapes much of who you are.

Also there are not moments so glorius they must be followed with death death is not usually so glamorous.

>> No.14869357

>>14869339
Your frail low bone-density high genetic load self would not be born in to a hunter gatherer society, or would be discarded as a liability, a runt. The environment you are born in to is partly because of the genetics of your parents. This should be obvious, otherwise you would be born somewhere else. There are implications here.

>Also there are not moments so glorius they must be followed with death death is not usually so glamorous.

If you don't feel it then you would never understand, and more than that it would be cruel hearted to expected it of you. You are meant to make clay pots or something.
