I hear The Princess Bride movie is even better than the book. Is that true?

I think they're both really good. The casting for the movie was very well-done. And there isn't too much in the book that they had to skip over in the movie (although I'd have really liked to see Prince Humperdink's zoo of dangerous animals). But I also really enjoyed the book, it was even a bit more witty at times than the movie. Overall, I can see how some people would think if you've seen the movie, there's no need to read the book, they are similar enough. But I wouldn't say the movie is actually better, just that they did a good job with it

I guess it helps that the author of the book is also the screenwriter of the movie.

False. The movie is by the editor of the book's English language abridgement.

Right. Damn, the abridged version sucks so fucking much compared to the Florinese original.

>> No.1486274

It does. The context of the original was taken out entirely.
I lived overseas as a teacher in what used to be Florin, before the Soviet occupation, and was shocked and delighted to find the original.
It's a lot bawdier and a good deal more political than Goldman's watered-down bastardization.

It's truly a shame how rare the original is. I know they were mostly burned under Stalin, but still We know a few survived. A unabridged translation would be a moneymaker. Penguin isn't that smart I guess.
