Well /lit/, who was better?

>> No.14854206

Socrates is based
Plato is cringe
Aristotle is redpilled

>> No.14854210

>>14854206
But doesn't Aristotle only exist because of Plato? And isn't he doing something completely different?

>> No.14854217

>>14854210
No, Plato wasn't Aristotle's father

>> No.14854230

>>14854217
Sure Aristotle would have existed, but "Aristotle" wouldn't have existed without Plato.

>> No.14854251

plato < aristotle < plotinus

Wrong.

There’s not a single scrap of evidence to suggest Socrates ever existed. It makes far more sense for him to be a literary device that Plato invented to better expound his ideas.

>> No.14855096

>>14855061
There are many sources, retard.

>> No.14855117

>>14855061
>leads to the creation of four different schools of Greek philosophy each mutually rejecting the other and claiming to be the true heir of Socrates' philosophy
Even ignoring the other sources and likelihoods, Socrates was a real individual. Do you seriously just think everyone of Athens not to mention the world would just accept Socrates existed because of Plato's dialogues? Would no one say or contradict that? What about Aristotle?

>> No.14855136

>>14855096
List them.
>>14855117
Yes. Aristotle is Plato, too.

>> No.14855148

>>14855061
Do you actually believe this or are you just another person who took the "did historical Jesus even exist" shtick and ran too far with it?

>> No.14855162

>>14855148
There’s more evidence for the existence of Jesus than there is for Socrates, anon.

>> No.14855166

>>14855136
>Yes. Aristotle is Plato, too.
Then how do you explain the unique sculptures then fool? I can see Plato writing all those books pretending to be different people but this, nah this got me right here. https://youtu.be/mP5ZVPwP7bg?t=749

>> No.14855193

Lol, so I can make a sculpture of Mr Plinkyplonk the Third and suddenly he’s a real person, because there’s a sculpture of him?

>> No.14855210

>>14855061
Socrates was a subconscious archetype that lived rent free in Playdough's head

>> No.14855218

Socrates is just aping the earlier sophists.
Plato is just writing down what other people talk about and he is more of a commentator than a philosopher.
Aristotle is the best because he is much more creative and original.

>> No.14855251

>>14855218
>Socrates is just aping the earlier sophists.
But Socrates was aping Pythagoras?

>> No.14855257

Plato über alles, proles

>> No.14855269

>>14855251
No he was aping Protagoras primarily, who was an exponent of the so-called Socratic method. Socrates is just more famous because Plato popularized him instead of Protagoras or someone else.

>> No.14855271

>>14855210
I’m willing to go with this

>> No.14855277

>>14855269
yeah socrates was quite the moral relativist, like protagoras
retard

>> No.14855298

>>14855277
The Socratic method has nothing to do with moral relativism really. You could use it to argue for any position. It's the dialectical strategy used by Socrates. He likely learned it from sophists. Diogenes Laertius says Protagoras came up with it, which is quite likely since the whole strategy of sophists was to produce contradiction and that's what the method achieves.

>> No.14855313

>>14855136
Plato, Xenophon, Antisthenes, Aristippus, Aeschines of Sphettos, Aristophanes...

>> No.14855321

>>14854199
I don’t read any other accounts of Socrates besides the ones that Plato wrote, so really it’s just Plato and Aristotle I’m reading. I would never feel the need to favor one over the other. I believe that Plato is more esoteric, he is about revealing the truth that already exists, I find his ideas can often be applied in surprising ways, while Aristotle is about formulating a system of enquiry and a way of seeing the world. Both are beneficial.

>> No.14855791

>>14855193
>implying you could make sculptures of that quality of that many of Mr Plinkyplonk
Also I was joking about believing you're other proof, Plato is neither Aristotle or Socrates.

>> No.14855802

>>14855298
>implying it's the same thing
>implying some lowly Protagoras did it to the same effect or even general character as the genius Socrates
