do you think the writers of the gospels made stuff up?

Like do you think they went "I didn't hear Jesus say this and nobody told me he said it but I'll make him say it because that's what he would have said I reckon" or "I'm gonna make Jesus do this to fulfill a prophecy".

I think they wouldn't since they were Christians.
