Why does he use the n-word so much? Perhaps more importantly, why do teachers feel the need to use this clearly outdated book?

It's mainly the time period it's written in but if you're looking at huck finn the whole book was centered about blurring the lines of race, the usage of the word nowadays is seen more as an ironic attribute of that work.
