i read this as a young kid and it resonated with me, especially cause the last page was like lol she died btw. i dont know how it wouldve been if none of the shit she went through happened to her, but the fact that such a slice of life moment exists in such a strange time and place is quite beautiful i think. her subsequent capture and death cannot be unlinked from why the book is so impactful, but as it was one of the first 'stream of consciousness' type books i read, i remember thinking, oh this is something i can do too. if she was alive rn she'd probably have like a blog or something, grow up, give up her writing dream, and get a job like the rest of us.
