ITT crappy books /lit/ tricked you into reading

>> No.14764148

This is on the top of my to-read pile, indeed, as a result of /lit/ hype.

Can you do me a favour and tell me why I shouldn't read it?

Ligotti’s actual short stories and poetry are great.

>> No.14764362

The entire book is him just systematically shitting on every possible belief system. Contrary to the cover/title it’s basically like a long essay.

Sounds pretty based to me.

I don't think it lives up to the hype at all, but I still think its worth a read. Its needlessly pessimistic and the "arguments" he puts forth are basically as complex as an angsty fourteen-year-olds. Its basically just a bunch of nihilistic food for thought in essay form, not a structured philosophical argument.Still, there's some interesting perspectives in the midst of the shit. Its okay

It's ok. Overhyped for sure.

I got this book, but with a discrete black cover. Fuck not judging a book, this cover is garbage I wouldn't have given it a chance over it

It's harder to pick up on if you haven't read any of his short stories but there's a very tongue in check black humor throughout this book. It ended up being more fun than it sounds IMO, although it is overall seriously arguing some very depressive points

>> No.14765804

Ligotti has anhedonia. He is mentally ill.
>inb4 not a refutation
Why would you want to subject yourself to his clinical misery?

>> No.14765900

Sadly I've been very gullible. I was tricked into reading Evola, Guenon, and The Culture of Critique, all of which were a waste of time.

I don't rate him, they're either patische imitations of Lovecraft or innane meta pieces.

Not a refutation.

I honestly liked this book and agree with Ligotti on many points. He masterfully presents the human condition as a horror story. If you cannot see the logic in his arguments then you merely suffer from the delusion he mentions in the book.

That's a funny way of saying benefit from

>> No.14767380

>>14767365
that's the whole point of the book. seeing worth in something that is inherently worthless doesn't benefit anybody.

Yes tell the good goys how much these books suck
