He meant that life has no meaning, not that we shouldn't do anything.

Fun fact: Constantin Noica, another Romanian philosopher, was constantly worried that Cioran, who was his friend, will commit suicide. Cioran took him aside at one point and told him "Don't tell this to anyone, but I like life".

Also Cioran told his admirers to do something better with their time than to read him. He also admitted that his entire life he was basically just the secretary of his emotions.

So he's in a sense self-refuting, but it doesn't matter (not that OP's demand is anything but a meme obviously). I think the best refutation is that he can be incredibly boring at times.

But a moral nihilist could defend himself? The attempted murder and act of defense are both neither good nor bad.

"OH NO I'M SO SAD I'M A FAILURE EVERYTHING GOES WRONG FOR ME."
>Starts getting famous.
"NO REALLY GUYS LIFE IS HORRIBLE HOW CAN ANYONE LIVE LIKE OH MY GOD SO HORRIBLE"
>Doesn't get any serious illness. Gets married.
"AAAAA PLEASE LIFE IS SO HORRIBLE HOW CAN ANYONE EVEN WANT TO BE IN THIS WORLD"
>Lives until almost 90 years of age.

Has there ever been a more notorious fraud?

I disagree without evidence, because purpose requires none.

Nothing is absolute, including this statement. The absence of concrete obvious meaning does not mean absence of meaning itself. At worst you can be agnostic about meaning, and even then you can find a shadow of meaning in biological fancy. To eat food is a simulacrum of a machine completing its meaning. And that’s only from a materialist point of view. Meaning becomes more grandiose when you go idealist.

Why does "nihilism" bother pseuds so much?
