Alright /lit/ here the recommended childrens guide FIRST DRAFT i made.

some things to note:

1. image is very large, i want to split it into two images or at the very least have it categorised better. Not sure what the categories should be though, childrens and toddlers maybe? with a third one for some young adult fiction?

2. the actual books. I'm not really looking to add any more books and i haven't read half the books that i've put on the list, but do you think there's a good range of stuff there?

3. are there any parents here on /lit/ who see this as a useful thing? Especially if they were a first time parent? Do you see this as useful? What changes would you like to see? If you saw this before you had given your child books what other info would you find helpful that we could possibly add?

4. format, i know the format isn't great (font used etc) but this is a first draft. Also looking to add a bigger paragraph at the top as an introduction. what do you think? yes/no? good idea/bad idea? should i go straight to the books? should we have a small introduction?
that's all /lit/
this is a first draft and if i upload it to the wiki it will only be for a short time whilst i work on categorising this list/making two smaller lists!

(had to change the file type from PNG to JPG so hope it looks okay)

pic unrelated

>> No.1475556

yeah, definitely split it into categories, the hungry caterpillar and holes are vastly different.

p good range, only add The little prince to it aswell, that's a good read even for an adult.

It might not be useful but it's not detrimental and could be helpful to a small amount of people.

You probably want learning to read, moving onto proper reading. So Hungry Caterpillar, Where the wild things are in the former; Narnia, the Iron Giant in the latter.

Also, Laura's Star/ Lauras Stern is a good one.

5-6. Short attention span, needs constant adult supervision. When they are are at a play they want adults nearby, respond to plays, can control their body with entire energy to any stimuli, beginning of socialization. Like stories about animals and fantasy heroes that are stereotypes and archetypes. Strong visual impressions, idealist, optimism needs reinforced
7-9 they love rules, gaining control of their bodies, they like boundaries upon themselves and are into hobbies and collecting things. Are started to become socialized, are interested in rules and perceived fairness, sensitive and emotional, codify what they understand, work out expected behavior. good & bad clearly defined, classic fairy tales that embody morals and values.
10-13
recognition of individual differences, seeds of adolescent trauma can crop up, looking for acceptance, individual abilities matter more than good & bad, daydreaming, hero worship, acceptance of themselves
14-18
teenagers becoming adults, often too cool, and unreasonable as an excuse for failure, realize there are good & bad choices, others outside themselves are not good or/& bad. boys are into mystery and sci-fi, girls are into romance. both are into famous people, individuals who made sacrifice.

the point of the wiki is to point users in the right direction, instead of spouting a list of the same books over and over and over. The wiki does not stop anyone from posting here on /lit/ and in fact it actually encourages that by giving them some books to read.
