Nikolai berdyaev was an aristocrat. Russia eventually kicked him out. He wrote articles, books and was a professor. I think a lot of philosophers are either teachers or aristocrats. Maybe in modern days they have an internet following which helps to pay rent. It's hard to say something new and meaningful. Being a worthy philosopher seems hard.
